Now Open – Goodreads Choice Awards 2016

If you have joined Goodreads (and if you haven’t – why not?) then it’s time again to select the best books of the year during the 2016 Goodreads Choice Awards. This is the eighth year for the event where readers embracing all genres select the best-of-the-best books across 20 categories.

The first round of voting – there are three rounds – started with the 15 highest rated books per category, according to Goodreads member feedback. The ratings were assigned from data amassed via the hundreds of millions of books that were added, rated, and reviewed on the site this year. (Goodreads touts that the 300 books found on the initial ballot had a combined average rating of 4.11 out of 5 stars and were added on Goodreads by individual readers more than 5.3 million times.)

Starting November 1, Goodreads members could choose among 15 top-rated books in each of 20 categories such as Fiction, Historical Fiction, Mystery & Thriller, Young Adult Fiction, Romance, Science Fiction, Nonfiction, and Debut Goodreads Author, among others. And, in this first round, if you don’t see your favorite book in any given category, you can write-in your choice (however, only books released between November 16, 2015 and November 15, 2016 are eligible). How cool is that?

There are three rounds of voting. The Opening Round only lasts until November 6 (this coming Sunday); these results determine which books make it into the Semifinals. The Semifinal Round goes from November 8 until November 13, and it actually has more books to choose from than the Opening Round: the 15 from the previous round plus the top five write-ins for each category.

The Final Round runs from November 15 until November 27, and each category has been culled down to ten nominees each. The winners will be announced on December 6.

So, if you are here on LitStack, it’s a pretty safe bet that you love books. There’s also a good chance that you are a Goodreads member, or have been thinking about joining Goodreads, or at least have heard of Goodreads. So what the heck?  Sign in, sign up, sign on, and vote! Especially this Opening Round (now through Sunday!), because you can write in your favorite book if it’s not already on the list. Again – how freakin’ cool is that?

So head on over to Goodreads right now, and vote! Then keep your eye here on LitStack – we’ll not only link you to the results, we’ll remind you when it’s time to vote again. Because, well… we love books, and sharing that love with all of you!
