Favorite Christmas Story

I think many readers would agree that while gifts are great, a good book during the holidays is even better. Each year when my parents would unpack the Christmas decorations, in addition to the carolers, there were a few books that would be put out on the coffee table, my favorite being Beatrix Potter’s The Tailor of Gloucester.

I still have a copy of it and enjoy reading the story of a tailor commissioned by the mayor of Gloucester to make a suit for his wedding, but becomes sick with a virus and is unable to finish it. As the tailor huddles under the covers, unbeknownst to him, a group of mice take over the production and manage to finish the suit just in time. In addition to the story, one can sit and marvel at Potter’s beautiful illustrations. A wonderful story for the holidays.
