On this day, January 16, in 1980, Lin-Manuel Miranda was born in New York City. Creator and star of two Broadway musicals – In the Heights and the pop culture phenomenon Hamilton – he has won, to name a few, a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammys, an Emmy, a MacArthur Fellowship, and three Tony Awards. Cinematic highlights include writing the music for Disney’s Moana, voicing the character of Shag Kava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and starring in the recent Mary Poppins sequel as well as HBO’s adaptation of Philip Pullmans’s His Dark Materials. One of his upcoming projects is as creative producer and composer for film and television adaptations of Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicles. Today, Lin-Manuel turns 40.
