On this day, January 16, in 1980, Lin-Manuel Miranda was born in New York City. Creator and star of two Broadway musicals – In the Heights and the pop culture phenomenon Hamilton – he has won, to name a few, a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammys, an Emmy, a MacArthur Fellowship, and three Tony Awards. Cinematic highlights include writing the music for Disney’s Moana, voicing the character of Shag Kava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and starring in the recent Mary Poppins sequel. He will serve as producer and co-composer for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and has been named as creative producer and composer for film and television adaptations of Patrick Rothfuss’s The
Kingkiller Chronicle. Today, Lin-Manuel turns 39.
