Books That Should Be Films By Now
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester
Widely regarding as one of the most compelling and import SciFi novels (and certainly a precursor to the cyberpunk movement), Bester’s The Stars My Destination has seen a radio adaptation courtsey of the BBC and is referenced often in fandom, books and films, but is considered to be “unfilmable.” We don’t think so. Taking I-Robot and AI as examples, we believe this SciFi classic would transform brilliantly on the screen.
H. Beam Piper’s Paratime on the big screen, please! Anything from “Police Operation” to “Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen.” Or his Terro-Human Future history, “Ullr Uprising” or “Little Fuzzy” (the original, not the reboot). Sam Elliot would make a superb Jack Holloway!
And while we’re at it, when did The Man of Bronze *ever* get a serious big screen makeover? How about a gritter Shadow?
David Eddings’ “The Belgariad” and “The Malloreon” series (would make for great television)
“Vickers (Corp*s*e)” and “The Long Orbit” by Mick Farren
Steve Perry’s “Matador” Series
David Weber’s “Honor Harrington” series
The list goes on and on.
Paul, these are great, great choices. I wholeheartedly agree!
