Books That Should Be Films By Now
Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
We can’t think of another book series that deserves to be depicted on the big screen more than the Wheel of Time series. Love or hate the post-Jordan incarnations, this one is a vivid, lush series of tales that hints at the metaphysical and spiritual aspect of science, religion and elemental detail. But can it be done? Well, we think with the ever-advancing technologies in film only continuing to become more fantastic that a Wheel of Time film would be a successful, welcome inclusion into the SciFi film genre. Again, whispers of a production abound, but since 2008 when Universal optioned the rights, those whispers have grown quite faint.
H. Beam Piper’s Paratime on the big screen, please! Anything from “Police Operation” to “Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen.” Or his Terro-Human Future history, “Ullr Uprising” or “Little Fuzzy” (the original, not the reboot). Sam Elliot would make a superb Jack Holloway!
And while we’re at it, when did The Man of Bronze *ever* get a serious big screen makeover? How about a gritter Shadow?
David Eddings’ “The Belgariad” and “The Malloreon” series (would make for great television)
“Vickers (Corp*s*e)” and “The Long Orbit” by Mick Farren
Steve Perry’s “Matador” Series
David Weber’s “Honor Harrington” series
The list goes on and on.
Paul, these are great, great choices. I wholeheartedly agree!
