Mary Shelley

An author shoutout to Mary Shelley who was born in London, England. Although she is primarily renowned for her novel Frankenstein: or, the Modern Prometheus and for being the spouse of Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, she was a significant figure in literature in her own right. Edgar Rice Burroughs

Author Shoutout

An author shoutout to Edgar Rice Burroughs, who was born in Chicago, Illinois. Taking a leap of faith at 36, he departed from his occupation as a representative for pencil sharpeners to pursue writing. He believed he could craft a tale at least as compelling as the subpar content he encountered in the pulps. Within a year, he serialized his inaugural piece under the pseudonym Norman Bean, opting for anonymity to safeguard his reputation.

He is now revered as the author of Tarzan of the Apes (with 26 books featuring the jungle hero) and numerous science fiction novels (such as John Carter of Mars), along with a handful of Westerns and even a couple of historical novels. He passed away in 1950 at the age of 74 due to a heart attack.
