Publisher’s Weekly is reporting that Abrams ComicsArts will publish a monograph on the works of the acclaimed cartoonist Daniel Clowes in conjunction with an exhibition of his works to be mounted at the Oakland Museum of California in April 2012. Acquired by Abrams ComicsArts executive editor Charles Kochman in a deal negotiated by agent Nicole Aragi, The Art of Daniel Clowes: Modern Cartoonist, will also be published in April 2012.
The exhibition will be entitled, Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes, and has been organized by independent curator Susan Miller and OMCA senior curator Rene de Guzman. The show will run from April 14, 2012 until August 12, 2012 at the OMCA. The show will also tour internationally. Clowes is the author of such comics works as Mister Wonderful, Wilson, David Borning and Ghost World, which was also made into an academy-award nominated film by director Terry Zwigoff.
OMCA senior curator de Guzman noted that Clowes, “bridges the boundaries of high and low culture. It’s only fitting for OMCA to present this exhibition that showcases Clowes significant contributions to the popular media of comics, film and the visual arts.”
