What we love so much about the hit ABC series ‘Once Upon a Time’ is the amazing way the producers and writers have turned our perceived notions of classic fairy tales on their heels. Snow White and Prince Charming had to fight for their “Happily Ever After.” Rumpelstiltskin has become a fan heartthrob (at least, that’s the consensus in my circle of friends) and he is is the “beast” in the “Beauty and the Beast” tale.
There are many more liberties taken to modernize these classic tales (if you’re watching this season you’ll discover that Peter Pan is a complete asshat), and now producers are shifting gears and giving fans a peek into Wonderland. Here’s the premise:
In Victorian London, the young and beautiful Alice tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah-smoking caterpillar and playing cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this girl must be insane. Her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her – especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever, the handsome and mysterious Cyrus – but deep down she knows this world is real and just in the nick of time, the sardonic Knave of Hearts and the irrepressible White Rabbit save her from a doomed fate.
