Slavoj Zizek on Santa Claus
As a cultural critic and philosophical writer, Zizek has few equals — at least in terms of sheer exuberance of thought. And since I was pretty busy this week, I thought I’d let him speak for himself in this newly posted video about an old topic: the nature of belief and its place within our society, as well as its development through ages past.
Zizek, in an interview with Ian Downey, Mitch Jones and Josh Strauss at the State University of New York at Brockport, briefly lands a few provocative points about this stuff; but the best thing about the clip is the fact that it all stems from a simple query about his views on Santa Claus. I honestly don’t think there’s a question Zizek wouldn’t answer seriously.
