The Least Predictable Books We’ve Read

Sometimes, it isn’t all that difficult to sort out what will blonde-reading-bookhappen in a novel. It does, of course, depend solely on “who” you’re reading and, perhaps, your personal ability to pick up hints, to notice what has been foreshadowed. But sometimes, when the plot is thick and the author is clever, smarties among the reading audience can be shocked by the delicious unpredictability of a novel. The following details a few of those.

The Birth of Venus, by Sarah Dunant
I ended up not liking this novel, but I finished it anyway. The ending felt pretty forced – but let me just say that I’ve never read anything that involved a snake tattoo, a faked cancer, a pig’s internal organ, and a paintbrush all wrapped up in one character…who was also a nun. It was nutty.
