George R.R. Martin Releases Free Chapter of His Next Book

From the Huffington Post:

George R. R. Martin, author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire series,” released an entire chapter from his upcoming book, “The Winds of Winter,” today. The novel will be the sixth in the series, and will follow “A Dance With Dragons,” published in July of this year.

The author, whose novels were adapted into HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, says on his blog that the reveal is a Christmas present to his “loyal fans and readers.”

‘The chronology, as usual, is tricky,’ he says. ‘This chapter will be found eventually at the beginning of [The Winds of Winter], but as you will be able to tell from context, it actually takes place before some of the chapters at the end of [A Dance With Dragons].’

The author also announced that another chapter will be available to the public before the book is published.

This isn’t Martin’s first attempt to whet fans’ anxious appetites. Earlier this year, he participated in Authors@Google, which allows Google users to chat informally with writers.
